Active and thriving, Denton features a vibrant urban-suburban environment. Among nearby cities and towns, Denton is one of the most populated (with 136,195 residents). As the county seat, Denton is on the far north side of the Dallas-Fort Worth metro region.

The vast majority of communities exude suburban appeal and have homes fit for every preference and style, from older craftsman-style homes to modern homesteads on larger lots. Near the city center and the University of North Texas as well as Texas Woman’s University, homes are quaint and placed closer together. Especially notable is the aptly named Denton Square, which centers around the historic Denton County Courthouse. The School of Music at the University of North Texas has turned out musicians such as Norah Jones, Don Henley, Meat Loaf, Roy Orbison, and Maren Morris, which means this small town prides itself on its amazing live music and arts scene. Comparing the area to other local cities, Denton has one of the best selections of attractions and leisure activities. Highlights include Water Works Park, Explorium - Denton Children's Museum, South Lakes Park, and Joe Skiles Park. The Denton Art and Jazz Festival in the fall is a favorite of folks from all over the North Texas region.

Beginning with elementary grades and extending through high school, Denton offers exceptional schooling options for local children and teens. Several of the highest-rated schools include Ryan Elementary School and Nelson Elementary School.
